The famed dabbawalas, known for their efficient food-supply network in Mumbai, will now have an opportunity to hone their English-speaking and computer skills.
Although most of workers in that team of 5,000 dabbawalas are illiterate or school drop-outs, it was lauded with six sigma accuracy of 99.99 per cent by Forbes magazine in January. A survey conducted by Forbes in 1998 shows only one error in 6 million transactions of dabbawalas. The dabbawalas’ organization received ISO 9001 certification in 2000 for their service to the nation.
